To gut the box on a piped viper 780 or not?

Before i bought the 780, Bender recomended cutting the top and gutting the box.The vent lines are plugged in , running a vari flow 167.5 across, middle clip, 50 pilots. I have a stock uncut top and the inner shelf .Any comments or recomendations would help!
