I had the crank bearings changed on my 98 srx 700 two seasons ago had it apart due to crank issues so everything was changed. As far as I can remember when I put it back together the bearings on the ends were tight on the crank and would not move. I'm talking about the one large bearing on the pto end and the 2 smaller ones on the flywheel side. this summer i took the motor apart down to the crank to have mr.viper lake race port it. it has been about 5000km since the bearings were changed and i noticed now that those bearings will slide right off the crank, all three of them. they all look and feel to be in perfect shape. just wondering if this is normal. thanks

Crank Failure how long?
Mr.Viper How long are the cranks lasting? I have a 02 Viper 780 been piped since new. Went to 780 at 2500 miles now I have 7600 miles. Any recomendation as to when I should consider sending out the crank? Waiting for failure does not seem right. At what cost to replace all bearings?

hey mac, I have had em with 10,000 plus miles on them and be ok, I have had to replace them at any other mileage in between, I think the oil you run, the storage place(meaning if its dry or gets moisture in engine) has more to do with it then the miles put on them, roller bearings have a very long, long life if taken care of properly. motorcylce engines will easily go 100,000 miles on a set. Rings are another story, about 2500-3000 miles max and they are worn in a 2 stroke snowmobile of any manufacture! Keeping fresh rings keeps the pistons from rocking back and forth in the bore which leads to piston skirt breakage and this will eat up the crank bearings from the shrapnal flying around inside the case!
