I believe i have mine set at 19mm or 20 mm one of those.
I think stock recomended is 21 or 22 mm

21mm +/- 1mm, so 20-22mm is the spec.

Yamaha specs are well within the threshold and you can go leaner. I have had mine set at 24-25mm for the last 3 years without problems and noticed an immediate decrease in oil usage and my power valves staying a little cleaner. Just my $.02

Wait so the larger the gap the less oil you are using? I think i went backwards then.

the larger the gap, the more slack in the cable, thus it pulls less on the pump.
i have alway run 23 with no problems, well, atleast that have to do with oil.
ive seen sleds run even leaner with no problem, depends on your nerves, ????
when i do other peoples sleds, i make them 21, why, because i dont buy their oil.

Scott is exactly right unless your running good 100% synthetic oil such as amsoil interceptor or dominator dont stray too much away from stock specs, yamalube is not going to protect in a leaner situation on the oilpump settings!

Ahhh..didnt think of that, the synthetic versus Yamalube or another synthetic blend. With my 24-25mm gap I was running Spectro "Syn-Sno", which is a good, quality 100% synthetic.

Must be doing something wrong. The gap was set at 17mm and i can only adjust it to 19mm. Is there somthing else i am soppose to be doing here? I have adjusted ski-doo pumps for years, is yamaha different?

Make sure you are measuring the gap correctly, the method is shown on the tech pages on totallyamaha.com A lot of people measure the distance of the threads showing, etc, and that isn't right. You want to measure the amount of cable showing when you pull the adjustment section apart (under the rubber boot at mid-cable).
