I sold mine with only 1000 kms on it.. The guy who bought it has had nothing but problems with it. It keeps detonating. It ran perfect for me so can't figure it out. I heard people have had lots of problems with them around here. Might be why you don't see too many of em.
Well, I have heard the same thing........but like yourself I had a '98 and ran fawless. Kick myself for ever getting rid of it. Now my wife wants to step up from her Phaser Mt. Lite and this is a perfect fit.......if I can find one like I had.
Ask a yammi mechanic one time why yamaha quite the smart carb.
"They weren't so smart."
But still would like to find another.
They had to of made several. Guess if you got a good one, nobody is getting rid of them.
Keep looking!!!!

Snomoguy,I also had one, a 97. I heard bad things about the engines after I sold it. I had 3800 miles of fun on it, I guess I didn't know any better.
I think it had to compete with the 700 and you don't see many for that reason. Every once in a while there is one up for sale up here. I think the 98 and later are better versions.
How's the Wyoming snow? We have about 18" at 7500 ft. Things are looking up.

I've got a 99 for sale, but it's in Fairbanks. I've had nothing but good times with it, it's got almost 5K on it and has run flawlessly. Been a great machine.

If you see a 600 with smart carbs run for the hills.I had one and had nothing but problems. The problems left when I put regular carbs on and put a rear heat exchanger in it along with 700 running board heat exchangers. Now my plan is to put the 600 in my 91 phazer and put a 700 in the 600.

I have a 98 which I bought off the showroom floor. Yes it has the "smart carbs" and it has run awsome. Sure I did some tuning when it was brand new but once setup it has been one of the best machines I have owned. I have no complaints about it. I still own it and depending on where we are going, I leave my RMK at home and ride the MM. The wife uses it a couple times a year. I have thought of selling it, but it just works so good that it's difficult to part with.
