I am getting ready to pully my sled outa the shed and get ready for snow..... due to very limited funds, (new baby due in 5 1/2 weeks) I won't be able to put a whole lot of money into it this year. The sled is an 02 viper... stock with 1.25 ripsaw and an mbrp race canister. also have a 53/43 helix with green spring to go into the secondary and am planning on ditching a layer from the headgasket. My question is about carb jetting. I know the sled came pretty rich from the factory,,, but thats about all i know,, not sure if anyone changed anything since then or what. Would there be any benifit to jetting the carb based on my altitude and general operating temp.? and if so can anyone give me some direction? Alot of the posts on here deal with jetting a tripple piped viper and so forth, but I'd like to make sure my stocker is jetted to maximize the power and potential I have available to me... thanks a bunch in advance guys, Jeff

or if anyone has any other cheaper ways to enhance performance that would be great too........I want to improve the sled from last year, but triples are way outa the budget......something more cost effecient may be possible..thanks again

You shouldn't need to rejet if you remove a layer from the headgasket. You will have to run premium fuel though. Its most likely not worth the small improvement in throttle response you get if you are on a budget. The stock Vipers I have had I dropped down one size main jet and left everything else alone.
If your looking for inexpensive power gains the easiest thing you can do is put the stock muffler back on...MBRP cans are known for a 3-4 hp LOSS of power (but they have at least 10-15 mental hp...BRAAP BRAAAPPPP). Also focus on clutching.....I'm no clutching expert so I won't try to give you any set up advise but you can gain alot with clutching. Make sure your power valves are clean and sycronized. A new belt properly adjusted will alot of times make a noticable difference.
Good luck with the new baby.
