so i went to look at a 2002 viper black today, and it looked mint no scratches, corrosion, very clean, then pullled out my handy dandy MAC Tools compression tester and got 132-131-115 wow big drop and it only had 3000miles, but the guy was an idiot, didnt even now what a heat exchanger was or carbides, i asked if he had a ratchet and he said whats that, some people.

actually i hate to tell ya now after you probably already told the guy you dont want it but the vipers have a staggered compression ratio. The pto cylinder has a bigger dome and therefore less compression than the center and mag cylinders. This is to allow the tuner to run straight jetting as opposed to the staggered jetting the other yamaha triples must run due to differences in operating temperatures between different cylinders. So if you can still get the sled, and its a good deal, JUMP ON IT!

yes that is true, vipers run staggered compression, so those above numbers are "normal". if it is a clean unit and a good price, that is still a "buyer". even new rings, are relativly easy and cheap to install if you need peace of mind.
cant help it, open mouth insert foot.... from your own words, some people. LOL! J/K ski
