I've got a 2000 Sxr 600 with the single layer headgasket mod. Need jetting and clutch advice.
I've got a set of 8ab's laying around -- what rivet's should I try? I've heard 2.4 in inner hole or just a .8 in outer hole.
Am I fairly safe jetting down to 133.8 #1, and 131.5 #2 . I'm also looking to drop the needles 1/2. Does this sound OK - piston wash seems huge right now, only an 1 1/2" of carbon in the center - the rest is bright as new.

You can drop the mains but don,t touch the needles. The 8ab,s will work better with a dual angle helix like a 47/41 or something close to that in a dalton type cut helix. With a dual angle helix & 8ab weights u want most of the weight in the tip. Your stuck clutching can be made to work well by just adding heavier rivets for about $5. Change the inner rivet to a 4.5 gram & it will work way better.
Why do the 8ab's need the dual angle helix to work best? What would it give you verses the stock 47(?) degree? Better top end?
I've been running heel clicker 2 speeds, but I'm tired of the 5000+ rpm engagement I've got. And also thinking long term those weights have got to be harder on clutch components- bushing, ect. Not to mention explosions I've read about.

Look at the profile of the 8ab vs your hc weights(polaris/ac profile) It is a lot steeper with all the mass in the heel area. To work the best your gonna need a helix with a shallow finish angle & load the tip. The profile of the weight & the area where all the mass is situated tells ya what your gonna need to dial em in with secondary tuning.
