I had a nice little incident last year where my 2 front mounting bolts came loose on the rear suspension on my 00 sxr. The mounting brackets were wrecked (which are on order), the alum. shaft inside is wore down, the W arm has a crack in it, and all of the idlers could probably use new bearings. I have been thinking of putting a different brand rear skid in but have not found anything that has really caught my eye. I know a quite a few people have done this lately, but I am not sure if I will have enough time to devote to this. Should I totally rebuild the proaction, or find another skid that will probably work better. Next year I am getting a new sled but I will probably keep it for a backup. Also, does anybody know if there are aftermarket W arms out there. I cannot find anything and would like to know before dumping a boat load of money to yamaha? Thanks for your input.

I'd buy another SXR proaction skid and part out yours. Easy swap and you can probably come out close to even in the end. (a lot closer than you would rebuilding it anyways)

If I'm not mistaken there was a long travel skid on Ebay just recently. If you have to do that much work to yours then you'd more than likely be better off buying another skid and if I were you I'd go with another brand, probably SC10-SC10 2.That way you just need to get the measurments from another Ski Doo sled with the same type of skid for the mounting holes.

w-arms are notorious for cracking at the welds, especially on inner arms. if you repair the one you have or replace it, it should be reinforced. there are a couple companies selling reinforced ones but are very pricey. bring yours to a local welder or get a hold of betheviper, he has posted that he can do it at a reasonable price. you can also search this topic and find some good info on w-arm fixing.

SC10 and SC10II are not better than a Pro Action - SC10III is where they made the leap to the next level. My SC10II sucked worse than my 97 XTC.

I have the exact same sled and had the exact same problems. I had my W arm reinforced by welding gussets onto the frame. My front shaft and brackets were also toast. I just finished putting in new brackets(inner and outer on tunnel wall) and made myself a new cross-shaft out of aluminum. Total cost for the repair, under $40.

so with these skid swap people talk about (expert, M10) do these bolt right into the existing holes? or do new holes have to be drilled in the tunnel?

any skid that isnt original will have to have holes drilled to be mounted. only thing that works without holes being drilled is the short travel and long travel proaction skids. I would take the time and rebuild it with stronger parts I think. unless you can find another one real decently priced. then keep or part out yours and either have spare parts or recover some of the $$$ :)

Get a hold of Bruce at CB perf. they are curruntley makeing a light weight aluminum upgrade kit for the proaction. it will be stronger and liter than stock. You can't beat that kinda deal. Maxdlx

ps while waiting for the skid parts, send the shocks to Bruce at B-line traction control in Lindstrom MN, he can revalve them and freshen them up for you. Maxdlx

good point max. they make nice stuff. dont think of it as broke parts but rather the perfect opportunity to upgrade :)
