Trails in WI do not open until the gun season is over. The earliest they can open is Dec 1st. Many areas will not open until after the 15th due to extended hunts.
You can ride on the lakes all you want. (Of course there aren't any of them frozen over yet.)

Same up here, trails open on Dec 1st. I think your chances of getting "accidental gunshot wounds" are pretty good if your out during gun season.

I know good old drunk hunters probally would shoot a snowmobile thinking it was an animal. They shoot eachother around here every winter. Lol if it moves they shoot it. Dont know what it was but they shot it. Then oooops ended up being his hunting buddy. A father shot and killed his son last year here. some people just should not have guns.

Also we want to get a good base down. Those 30/06 bullets would still make a mess even after going through your snow clothes not to mention every deer in the woods will be on the run chasing does and running from hunters.

I have a trip planned for December 15th to black river falls. Hopefully there's enough snow.
that would be great, but the last decade or so, you'd be hard pressed to find ridable snow prior to Jan. 1st
I like your optimism.

Even if there is snow, the ground under it might still be soft. Riding ditches, marshy areas and crossing small streams gets ugly. You need to hope for a few solid weeks of cold temperatures AND the snow for it to be a good ride.
