im looking to buy a 76-80 exciter to play with, is there anything i should look for in particular on these sleds. Im getting back into snowmobiling and i bought a new apex and it just doesnt seem to be as much fun as the older sleds were. I want to built a little woods sled to race around my house where snow and trail conditions arent the best.

I got a 78' 340 Exciter last year to have something that was like a GPX but more reliable. I got a surprise because it runs damn fast for a 340 fan. They are both light and well built. Make sure you have good crank seals, compression and bearings. Look for cracks in places where cracks could be dangerous (suspension, under motor mounts and the crossmember at the front. Watch out for doctor jobs.. duct tape wiring, older incorrect motors, cheap welding, overtightened bolts and the list goes on. It's usually not hard to tell when something has been abused or owned by someone who hasn't got 2 sweet clues. You often get what you pay for.
I was thinking along the same lines, I see a couple nice ones selling on ebay once and awhile. How come some have a gold colored tunnel? was this just on the srx
