Will an xtra 10 from a 2000 polaris be any better for trail cruising then the 98 proaction skid? I bought my wife a 98 600sx and she used to have a 99 600 deluxe that she loved. So I'm thinking the sx might be a bucking bronco compared to the deluxer.

Nope.
You can get the Proaction to feel more cushy with a few much less time consuming adjustments. Revalving/replacement of the shocks if they are not rebuildable.
My dad has the same love for the xtra 12 in his old Polaris and my Mom's current Polaris. His Viper is a bit too harsh at times. I think he would like more of ride like my XTC but still have that 700 pulling him around like rocket.

I would say they are pretty close to equal, but the xtra 10 is better for major pounding than the proaction, although you can definately find its limits. For your wife, i would go with the proaction. More adjustability, more familiarity
