I removed my rear suspension from my viper. I have both front mount bushings cracked along with the four plastic ones in the front shock. Is this normal after 4000 miles? Is it possible to glue them with super glue and fiber tape them, or just to get new ones from the yammie dealer. I hate going down there for just a few stupid plastic bushings. Also how do you remove the two idler wheels on the centre mounting shaft. Looks like they just pound off with a rubber hammer? Thanks

Some of the aftermarket companies or advertisers here have the whole bushing kits available. They wear out. Might as well replace all of them while the suspension is out.

Those wheels are pressed on. Basically, you need to pound the shaft out from them, but there are others here who could give you a better way.

Yes, it is normal for the suspension bushings to wear out, especially at 4000 miles. I have found that the front shaft end bushings wear out the fastest and are easily damaged if your are not careful when installing the front shaft to the tunnel. Mountain Performance sells a complete suspension bushing kit for around $90.00. I have bought this kit and it is all OEM Yamaha parts.

Thanks!

I was wondering why they were all cracked in the same spot. They all have a slit in them on an angle. I'm just going to re-use them, since they are in good shape otherwise :-)

Cut bushings

They are there for two reasons, one is to help with expansion and contraction ( heat from driving and cold cause it's winter time ) and the other one is to let moisture out/ water ( when you grease things up ) it creates a space between the inner shaft and outer tube ( space for grease )...If they are worn thin on one side then replace, if uniformed then reinstall...
