I picked up a 1979 srx yesterday i have wanted an old srx 440 ever since i got my 1979 exciter and a friends dad told me stories about a bad 77 srx his friend used to race. I am wondering what size studs i should use in a stock track and i would assume tunnel protectors are a must. I think the traction without studs on this will be even worse than my 85 v-max 540 was with this track being even shorter yet. I will try to post some pics soon.

.0875 stud are about the biggest you can run. check the clearance at the front of the tunnel.

I am running 1" Woody's push through ice picks in mine with tunnel protectors. Last year I ran 88 (I think), and it spun pretty bad at take off. This year I am running 132 (I think). I am hoping for a better hook up.

Thanks for the info im going to need some traction to beat my friends 81 blizzard 9500 plus. I noticed a difference even when my father put 96 studs in his srx 700 even though he probably needs more it helped alot. My sled also has a comet 102-c clutch on it that seems to engage around 4 grand is that low for this sled?

4000 is about what they engaged at in stock forum.
if your going to race it, raise the engagment to atleast 5000
