Alright I was thinking bout doin this just cause I'm a overkill kinda guy. What my plans are is to run 2-3 gallons of 101-105 race gas mixed in with pump gas in one tank. So when I need to stop at a gas station and I end up with some bad gas the extra octane thats in the tank will raise it a few points. Questions are:

-Will adding more octane reduce my performance?
-Will LEADED gas hurt my motor in any way?
-Can you mix UNLEADED and LEADED?
-Which VP fuel would you run for my appl.?
- And last but not least it this a dumb a** idea?LOL

PLEASE :jack: , answers only and keep on topic. Thanks, Brett

Whole motor set up: SLP pipes, Peak head with 22cc domes, SRX base gasket, Opti-cool head gasket, SRX rear heat exchanger. And porting will come nexted year. If she was stock I'd never do this cause I know that be way way overkill and I'd actually lose HP.

I dont know the squish of these domes but the guys at Peak Perf. told me itll be safe on prem. pump gas, along with other people that have ran these domes. But my whole reasoning behind this is at times we go to gas station that dont look like they get a whole lotta business, at least for prem. gas. So you never know how fresh the gas really is.

I built a mm for use at 7500-10000 ft. Used a peak head with 19cc domes. For testing at 1800 ft I used a 50/50 blend of premium and C12. At altitude I used a gallon a C12 with every fill of premium, just to increase the reliability margin. Did it cost performance? Probably a little but IMO worth it in the name of reliability.

I would think it would be alot easier now to just set the engine up to run on the pump gas in which you would be using, alot less hassle then worryin about getting race gas to go on a trip with. What happens if you get to the secondand third tank of gas on a trip??, your not going to have enuff left of the race gas in there to amount to jack squat differance, so youll be on the pump fuel anyways. using more octane then the engine requires will lower the power output and depending on the engine set up actually lower your peak rpm. If you set up the squish somewhere in the .055-.060" range and depending on the squish angle used in the dome youll be fine. You can change the angle of the domes and run less squish and more compression without detonation risk, this is for trail engines. its a minor machine operation.
If you want a peice of mind for the late night trailside gas stops just keep a bottle of 104 octane boost in the trunk and splash some in the tank if you think your getting vinegar instead of gas. Alot simpler in my mind and more enjoyable riding not having to worry about anything other then how many miles your going to get on the sled that night!

I gotta agree with mr viper700 again (what do you know????) A trail engine doesn't need 100 octane to run. if you build your trail sled to be a race sled, well, you shouldn't ride it on the trail anymore... People get REAL CONFUSED on horsepower/ octane/performance/ etc.etc.etc... I buy trail sleds and ride them out of the box.. My race sleds are just that,, race sleds (which i gave up for race cars a few years ago) My 440 motor makes over 600 horsepower (without nitrous).. I have around 12 grand in that motor and I am in the process of making a 535 motor that makes around 800HP...( around 18 grand).. yes, it runs on 10 dollar a gallon fuel and NOTHING else!!! There is this fuel additive called KOXOC made by KLOTZ, you'd have to run bigger jets (around 5 sizes bigger) but, you could run 92 or 93 pump gas in your motor and a shot of this KOXOC and get some ASTRONOMICAL results... There are also additives like MEK and BENZINE that are KINDA available( depends who you know) that would work wonders for your setup,,, but,,, you'd have to sit down with someone who knows fuels and knows motors enough to get you into the right ballpark.. MEK is some really good stuff,,but,,,its real dangerous!!! Same goes with BENE and ACETONE!!!!! as far as LEADED fuel is concerned,,, tetraehyl lead is some DANGEROUS STUFF ALSO... 1 drop of pure tetraethyl lead would burn through 6 feet thick concrete!!!! You'd never be able to get your hands on that form of lead, but, you get the idea... I've made fuels for different things and also have a knowledge about that stuff... For a trail sled,,, keep it simple... bring your self a RED BOTTLE OF HEET with you and try and NOT buy gasoline from someone who doesn't sell a lot... We could get into the summer blends and winter blends of gasoline, but that would be a WHOLE DIFFERENT thread!!! A good rule of thumb is,,, GASOLINE LASTS A MONTH before it starts turning into GARBAGE!!!! Gasoline with 10% alcohol, LASTS EVEN LESS THAN A MONTH before it gets contaminated ,, If you have ANY IDEAS that the gas has been in there for at LEAST A MONTH ( a boat yard) KEEP AWAY FROM IT!!!! Well Don has me convinced not to mix race gas into my tank. Plus when I get my Mega Power Heads with 24CC domes, I think she be as realible as I can get her for running pump gas. Besides having the timing retarded which I'm not willing to dig into. Just gunna carry a bottle of octane boost if the time comes. Thanks for the help fellas, this is why I ask before I do.

Nosboy what does MEK and Acetone do for a motor? Raise octane rating, make fuel more explosive? We go through a few thousand gallons a week here so I might be able to get a sample! ;)!

If you don't know all about it, PLEASE don't try pouring mek or acetone in your fuel tank.. acetone and mek both LOVE to destroy plastic!!!! yes, they both work VERY WELL as octane boosters, but, unless you have a motor that needs boosting, you will do more damage than help... it's a LONG story and I don't have the time to go there right now,,, maybe later!!! No I wasn't about to start my own little science project! I know it melts plastic and does a number on paint. I was just wondering what it would do added to a fuel source. Maybe I'll do a little reading on it.Thanks Ryan ;)!

you could use a LOT of things instead of gasoline to produce energy... There are literally thosands... I don't know if you have ever heard of the bag of lawn fertilizer and the box of MR BUBBLE theory???? maybe the vinegar and baking soda theory is a little better known, I always got A+ in science fairs in school. I was kinda facinated by the whole scientific approach, I took it to another level in High school and another level in college!!! So, I have been through 4 levels of the whole theory thing... Like I said before, I DID GO TO SCHOOL for ROCKET SCIENCE!!!! You've heard the ole experssion, "its NOT rcket science",,,well,,,,,maybe it HELPS!!!!!! (it sure does) Gary Oles nosboy

Another thing,, I REALLY don't recommend TRYING THIS AT HOME!!!! Gary Oles nosboy
