Trying to get some other thoughts.
Been running simmons skis for several years now, however always looking for new ideas. Any thoughts (pros or cons) on any other mountain ski on the market. I'm hearing the new yamaha ski is real good!
Not really unhappy with simmons, but always willing to try new and different.

Mountain ski

I purchased a mod mountain sled that came with these skis. Simmons looks better but these weigh about 1/2 and work just fine. They are made in Revelstoke BC. I can't find the web site but I'll keep looking. I think they are called "modski".

I love my Simmons and wouldn't have anything else. I have a buddy that swears by his Powder Pros. I did try his sled and they do work well, but wouldn't dare say they were better.

I've had both Simmons and the Yamaha mountain ski on my Viper. The Simmons are a better trail ski. No darting, good handling. The Yamaha mountain ski is a better, off trail/mountain ski. Better floation, and to my suprise they side hill much better then the Simmons. It's much easier to hold a line while side hilling.
Since I mostly ride the mountains, I sold the Simmons and kept the Yamaha mountain ski. Both are far superior to the stock ski in any snow conditions!

Did you just buy the ski bottoms? Will the handles and skegs off the stock skis (03 Mt. Viper) fit the new yamaha powder ski.

Yes, you can reuse your handles and carbides. Just need to get the ski bottoms, longer bolts and sleeves, and the spacers that go between the spindle and ski.
The mountain ski has a wider mounting area, so you can adjust the ski stance by moving the spacers.
I dont recall what the part #s were for the bolt, sleeve, and spacer kits. However there was a post awhile back that had the Yamaha part #s for the kits.
If I remmember correctly it was only a couple hunderd bucks for the bottoms and bolt/spacer kits.

Ok , gonna try the new yami powder ski. Got them in the mail today.
Do most center the spindle or go narrow or wide for better side hill and powder ridering.
Think I'll try and put the simmons on mom's phaser mt lite. See is always complaining about darting. Maybe that will help her.

I run mine in the center. Your mom should be happy with those Simmons on the trail. You'll like the mountain ski off-trail. Should be a win-win deal!

i tried mine in the wide position on my attak and it still layed right on its side in the powder. great powder skis, but not the best on trail for the rider forward sleds. they did work great on my viper on trail though.

snomoguy, I put Woodies Dulleys on my skis on the Vector Mtn. It helped on the trail a bunch. I also shimmed the back edge of the mount. I went with the widest setting on the Vector, it seems pretty stable but then it is a little top heavy anyway.

One thing to really watch is in crusted snow, they really bite and grab so hang on tight in the spring or any crust.

The web site is http://www.modsskis.com/ , my brother has a pair on his rev and loves them. They were actualy designed for water racing so they float really good in the powder and weight basically nothing.
