Ok i was looking in the tech section and came across the viper fuel pump mod, is this necessary.
So in short terms im suposed to shim up the fuel pump with a washer or rubber gasget and fill the vent hole with silicon, but if you shim up the pump why do you need to fill the vent hole.
I have a bunch of scrap pieces of 1/8" and 1/16" thick rubber gasget material that is adhesive on one side. We use this at work to seal our aircraft ac duct/window mods.
would just a piece of aluminum tape over the hole work.
Has any one done this mod, any feedback will be apriciated
thanks Jay

I have not done the mod and I have not heard of many that have. I believe the mod is to prevent the pump from freezing. I'm not sure if it effects Vipers more that are in extremely cold climates. Hopefully someone will chime in with more info for you.

I've had my fuel pump freeze up several times. I did the mod last winter, problem solved. I shimmed mine up a little with nylon washers and globbed in some clear silicon.
Make sure that the boots from the air box to the carbs are re-installed correctly they'll sometimes get the lip folded over during reassembly.

I just left the vent hole open and shimmed the pump off the tunnel approx 1/4" using rubber spacers. No freezing problems in four seasons.
If your going to pipe the sled, where larger main jets are required. I would not plug the hole. Its there to allow pressure/vacuum to vent on the back side of the diaphram as it pulses back and forth.
If the sled is stock, its not as much of a factor. Due to the lower fuel demand under WOT conditions.

The problem that you are talking about was only present on the 2002 vipers, but if you are still concerned, you can get a pre-filter for the airbox from mountain performance that fits over the airbox.

My fuel pump froze on me last year in the middle of no where in some deep powder. Im going to do that mod before this season because its a huge pain if it happens.
