Hello,
I got a 1983 SRV 540. I have had nothing but trouble with the engine ever since I got it.
Last december I put a new top end in it - got about 500 miles out of it.
went and started it up one very cold morning (-40 degrees Celsius) seized up (mild siezure) within 30 secs while warming up. put oil down the plug holes, let sit a hour, rotated the clutch back and fourth, she broke loose and I rode another 100 miles. Then she siezed up bad while on a lake run.
this time I took the motor out, put in new crank, punched it out .060 and new wiseco pistons - the whole nine yards. made it about 200 miles and it has now seized up solid a third time.
I'm thinkin the oil pump ain't putting enough out. Now i'm totally redoing the engine again - is there something else causing siezure besides lack of oil? - the seems to pump out oil cause she smokes blue and the level goes down in the tank after a ride. the pump is adjusted to spec.
Or toss the pump and go Premix? What should I mix - 50:1 ok?
anyone had probs like this with SRV's before?
Thanks,
Russ
