I'm removing the skid on my 2001 sxr 700 and I can get the bolts out of one side but the other side just spins. It seems like this should be all too easy but I have never done it before. Any help would be greatly appreciated as snow is coming soon and I need to get my shocks revalved.

Have you tried to put the bolts back in and tighten them.
Remove the other ones first.
Can you get a pair of needle nose vise grips in there to hold the end of the shaft maybe?

I was able to tighten them and get either side out just not both of them, when you say to hold the shaft do you mean that aluminum piece on the back side of the tunnel because thats all I can see spinning

The "loosen one then tighten it back up and loosen the other" method works best. Loosen one all the way, then retighten. Then loosen the other all the way then retighten. Then back each bolt out a little bit at a time (on each side) until they both come out. That is the method I used.
I wouldnt reccomend holding the shaft with a vise-grip or pliers as you can possibly mess the smooth surfcae of the shaft up.

Or use air tools - sometimes that helps, too.
Skid bolts
There is lock-tite on the bolts, what I do is remove one wirebuff that one then reinstall snug, then remove the other one and wirebuff it and reinstall...then loosen both and you will have no problem...When you come to put in your skid you will have to lock-tite the bolts up...

Thanks for all the replies guys, I knew I came to the right spot.
Try this if all else fails. Get the one side loose enough to slide an open end wrench behind the bolt head. Then loosen the other side, then work the wrench loose while trying to loosen that side. It works every time. Maxdlx

Use an air ratchet, makes it MUCH easier because it hits so fast that the shaft can't react quick enough and the bolt backs out.
