from what i have seen on the tech page, most are using the 8bu-00's for racing-1000ft. this is what i have and i do not know what weights to use. advant-edge 48/42 helix, green yamaha secondary srping and my primary spring is all white. i have both 89a-10's and 8bu-00's. 90% of my riding is on ungroomed /beaten down twisty farm roads and trails. looking for a good hole shot with an excellet backshift along with some good top mph for the ponds and lakes we cross in our day of travelling.what to do--89a-10's or 8bu-00's?? thanks. btw , i am also long traveling the rear to 11.5".(i know i will loose some mph but i do not race)

You can use the 8BU for 1000 feet with 4.5 gram rivet in the tips but you might want to run taller gearing for those weights dont give you much top end. 23/38 gears should be good for 1000 feet. Should run good with a 52/42 helix and green secondary spring set at 70

or you can run the 8DN20's out of a 2000-2002 SRX with both holes filled with 4.5 gram rivets with the same secondary set-up. will get you a little more top end and same 23/38 gearing.

That 48/42 advant-edge will shift out like a 54/44 ish type helix. 8bu,s work good on top end but your gonna heve to do some testing with most of the weight in the tip. With 89a-10,s start with about 2.4 inner & .8 outer.

looks like you guys both gave a diff outlook on the 8bu's. last winter i had the 8bu's a straight 45 helix (so i am told) not sure what the springs were , but it would pull hard on the holeshot if i pinned it. when i would slack off on the flipper or go off in to deeper snow on the side of the trail i had a terrible backshift. I had to work the gas to keep the rpm's from falling. my top speed was also good --hit 190-200 kph on the dream meter numerous times on the pond.so , seeing that this 48/42 is going to act the same as a 54/44 am i going to have the problem with my backshift. (seeing that the second angle is much the same as the 45 i have now)remember guy's, i am not grass draging or just point and shoot lake racing-i want this thing to be an aggressive trail sled . please help-it's going back together asap. thanks.

Get a set of 8dn-20 weights with 4.5 grams in each hole. Use a w-w-w primary spring & get a green secondary spring & wrap it at 60 for lake running & 70 for trails. 89a-10 & 8bu,s not good for backshift & especially in deep snow. For what u want run stock 00-02 SRX weights. They will work very well with that helix. Might have to slightly play with tip weight to get it bang on.

If you can wait about 6 weeks ill have a set for you. I have another set in my sled up in michigan that ill be pulling out for a set with 4.5 in both holes. The stock 8DN20's over-revved a little with the factory installed rivets

But really I would not use the 8BU weights for anything more than 600-800 feet. They pull very very hard up to 600 feet and fall flat on their face shortly after that.

thanks Tom , just the info i was looking for. i will keep you posted if i want the set you have. how much? trade maybe? i will see if i can get a set before that , if not i will be interested in yours. thanks.

if you dont get them by January, I can ship them up to you for $35 U.S. funds. they come with a 4.5 and the small 10.3 mm stell rivets. just drill the smaller rivets out and add 1 4.5 gram to each weight.

no thanks,

I have them already. I just have 2 sets of the 8DN-20's 1 set i have here thats going in my sled when i get to michigan and the set im taking out of my sled i am going to sell
