when i start my viper, i get a squealing noise at idle, it drive me nuts, i think it is coming from the primary, any solution's?

sounds like maybe belt deflection too tight? check three bolts on back of secondary to see if the washer has been removed. If not then remove it. If it has then get new bolts(wear item)

its your belt. I Have had it With mine alot too, Espically with New belts. I Find that after a while it goes away, dosn't bother me

Honestly, i think i've only heard belt squeek from Tripple Yamies

Make sure your running the right belt, also check the adjustment washeres remove some if its to tight, how high is your belt sitting, I had this problem with my sx700 if i ran the 8dn belt. Also those bolts on the back of the secondary where they need to be changed, happened to me also.

check the bottom of the belt if the underside has wear its rubbing when at idle, and will casue the squeel. it will also casue your rpms to rev to high my stock sx was reving 9000.

If all this dosnt work get your clutch realigned your motor could of shifted forward abit.

good luck, jay

The rpms were higher with the 8DN belt because it is a harder compound than the stock sx 700 belt (8CH). A harder belt will raise rpms. Also, i have found that often when i get my belt adjusted to the deflection i want i get belt squeel, i like to run my deflection a little on the tight side, and the squeeling doesn't really bother me. However, if you want to loosen it a little just do as the others said and remove the washers from the 3 10mm bolts on the back of the secondary. Also check your center to center and offset on the clutches, that is a very important and often overlooked adjustment.

lol. How you been man? All ready for the year? You planning on making any trips up here this winter or are ya just gonna pray for snow down there?

thanks everyone, i changed the belt at the end of last season and it started, i thought maybe something else was wrong, i can live with the squealing until it breaks in, thanks again

Try cleaning your new belts before you put them on. Scrub with mild liquid dish soap and plastic scrub pad. Rinse very well. I do this on my extra belt before I need it. Doesn't hurt to do the old belt that is on your sled as part of prep for the up coming season same time you scrub, wash and blow dry your primary and secondary.

Yea i had an extremely busy summer and didnt have much if any time to be around here no matter how bad i wanted to be. Still can't wait to see that 700 when you get it finished, it will be a great looking sled. Yea the knee is all healed up now and probably 95% as strong as the other one, it should basically be good to go! You going to make it up here for a ride this year?

Is it only at idle ? If you give a little gas does it go away ? Maybe increase your idle a litlle.

To do this you need center to center and alignment tools, which you could make if you are an avid machininst, otherwise several aftermarket shops sell them. Sled pro one is awesome, but its kinda pricey, worth it though if you can afford it.
