Ok i have a 02 viper with a 53/43 helix green spring, what would be the best gearing setup i can doo for hol eshot and what about top end with out changing my chain. Can i run like 20/40 or will a 20/38 be better.

So basically what different gear combo's have you guys done with out changing the chain.

how far can i go and down with both gears, im new to gearing so anything helps, just dont want to buy a bunch of gears the find out i only want one.

thanks jay

If top end is really important to you i wouldn't gear down more than one tooth on the stock viper gearing. If it were mine i would leave the gearing stock. If you have the stock track, traction will be a problem with stock gearing, let alone if you gear it down.

0 to 90mph i smost important to me, as i pretty much only trail ride and ditch bang, bu tdo hit the ocassion al lake, but my buddys got a srx so rather smoke him in the trails sense i have no chance on the lake unless i pipe.

I am planning on getting a 1" hacksaw or preditor, for now im gona have 240studs in my stock track.

so for best aceleration how far can i go without changing my chain. I dont mind losing a couple mph on the top.

can i gear down to lets say 21 and gear up to 39 with the stock chain, and will it make that much of a difference in whole shot

240 studs is WAY overkill for that sled, 144 is much closer, 168 at most is MORE than enough.

thats what i was thinking but, I have 144 now down the middle, but my buddy has 96 studs and backers 1.075 that he is gona give me, so if there free, i ran 192 on my sx700 with a preditor track and loved it.

after spending a couple hours reading previous searches on this, man i love this site and all the info there is here, I think im gona start with just going down a tooth on the top, and maybe after that goig up a tooth on the bottom, gears are pretty cheap so I guess i go with trial and error.

I would leave the stock gearing. I tried several different combos, gearing down 1 or 2 teeth, gearing up one, and the best setups always worked better with stock gearing. 144 studs down the middle is more than enough.

with a stock viper i found stock or 23t was best for trail riding. if the srx is stock, no clutching, you can take him with a good setup on the lake.

tell me more, what should i do, his srx is fully stock besides a 1.25 preditor track.

yes and i believe i have some non hyvo gears and a 70L chain. much cheaper than HYVO gears. only difference is the hyvos reduce noise
