Just wondering what is the best rear suspension set up for trail riding for the SRX. I found mine to be quite rough last year and remember seeing something on here about adjustments to make for the rear suspension. I don't want to go with the long travel viper set up just yet. I just would like to get the best out of the rear suspension for now. Any help is appreciated.
you can try the front shock a little stiffer than medium, rear shock soft and set the "FRA" to the middle position, it should be ok for normal trail riding..

I tried every which way to get the stock suspension in my '01 SRX dialed it. It was ok, at best, but I still took a beating every time I rode, not to mention breaking alot of parts in the stock suspension (W-arm, fornt shock, shock mounts shafts...). Consesus would be to upgrade the suspension. If you have the cash to spend, go with the Boivin Expert-X or a FAST M-10. If you are on a budget, check ebay for a used Doo SC-10 III or a Cat skid. I used to call my SRX, in stock form, the "a** kicker" cuz that is what I felt happened to me everytime I got off of it. Seriously though, by far the best money i spent on my sled was putting in an M-10.

I think my FRA is set on the top position right now. Is this the stiffest setting? Would softening my rear shock make the sled susceptible to bottoming out? Would stiffening up the front shock be harder on slides? And where do the limiter straps come in to play here?......Sorry about all the questions, just would like to understand how this thing works.
then your FRA is to soft i think.. i use to have the limiter straps on the 98-99 mod maybe 0.5 cm from all out! you must adjust shocks and try riding, and maby fine tune for yor rinding style and weight..
best thing you can do for very little money is long travel it, made a BIG difference in rinding comfort!!

suspension repair put the old thick spacers back in, with the thinner ones in the only good effect is that, well there is none. you fixed most of the slide issue with the wheels anyway. your suspension doesnt have enough travel to run that much slack front to back. that added to the looseness of your bushings will add to the harsh ride. though your never going to get a srx to ride great with the original skid. they are low and just made for speed. it can be much better though.
the fra for your weight should be in the middle setting
the front limiters let out for setting up the skid.
back the front spring washers out till the spring rattles on the shock, srx front track spring is too stiff and needs to be run as loose as posible.
now sit on the sled, rock it around, turn around and lay on the sled on your stomache. look at the gap. if it is big on the top you will need to remove the shock and back the spring out a little and re install.
you will want about 60/40 top to bottom on an srx.
once you get this gap correct, now go to the front shock again, when you sit on the sled, does the front end lighten up any? it shouldn't. if the front end lightens up when you sit on the sled, your sled will corner crapy. if it is ok and doesnt lighten up, get off the sled and tighten your limiters up so they are tight with no weight on the sled sitting on the ground. with any luck this will make the sled sit with the rear off the ground about 1/2-1in. this is correct set up.
if when you set of the sled and the front goes up you will need to remove even more spring preasure off the front track spring. as the sled is teatering on the middle, that makes for a rolly, hard to handle sled for trail riding. dont worry about the spring falling out if it is really loose, your going to tighten up the straps any way with the sled on the ground like in the last paragraph.
all this is assuming you have gone to this thread and done the repairs to your sled.
this will help the handling and ride. if you want a really good ride from the sled you will need to go with longer shocks.

thanks...I'll try those adjustments later on in the week. Got her all apart right now doing the drive bearings as well as replacing some in the skid.
