Well after reading all kinds of threads and taking a pounding last year I decided to long travel my 98 srx. Bought a set of almost new viper shocks off a 2002 (yes I know they're stiff) and am ready to install them. My question is how much top end speed will I lose by long traveling it? I'm the kinda guy who loves to be at the end of the lake first and I do alot of long lake runs for top speed. I spend alot of time tinkering to get that extra 1 or 2 mph out of it. I got my motor lake race ported by Mrviper this fall so I know even with the long travel shocks I'll be faster than last year. I'm just now worried that I could go alot faster if I don't long travel it. anyone here long travel their srx that can tell me roughly how many mph they lost?

i would say about 3 mph if memory serves me right.. but its not a big problem, the long travel is way better for comfort, and look at other sleds, very few is nearly as low as an srx, even a long traveled one, and the srx got great top speed either way!!!

if you are worried and want to be able to change it up fast. set it up with the fra set to the stiffest position on shock speed(lower hole) then when you want to have it sit low for the lake racing, move it to the soft position this will drop it down over an inch in the rear and put more preasure on the front shock. to do this trick you will need adjustable rods, or run alot of top gap.
