I was working on by brother in-laws carb's last night on his 97 Vmax. Gave them a good cleaning due to the fact that you had to hold the gas when starting & bad fuel economy. I had a question regarding jetting, on the carb spec sheet it said the mains should be 1-145, 2/3-143.8 I would assume that this means Cylinder 1 should be 145 and Cylinder 2 & 3 should be 143.8. On his sled he had 1 at 138.5 & 2 at 137.5
a) would this mean they are Richer Jetting then they should be?
b) what should they be at for -10 to -25?
c) Does some one have a chart posted with temp rating and jetting size?
d) If he changes to shock do you have to adjust the needles?

Thanks

That is way leaner than stock. What elevation are you ridding at. You need to tell us where the needles are at before we can tell you about them. Where are the fuel screws set at, and what pilots are in the sled too. Maxdlx

HI, if the mains are leaner then stock then I won't touch them due to the sled run good as is I was thinking that the small the # is the richer it is due to his fuel economy. He is comparing his Vmax to my SRX which I know the SRX is way better on fuel then other sleds. Do you know what he should be getting on fuel compared to the SRX? here are the answers to your questions:
1) The pilots are stock
2) Our elevation is about 1000-1500
3) Not sure what the needles are set at, didn't check sorry.

A heavy thumb will not help fuel economy. Check to make sure all of the choke plungers are seated all of the way when the choke is not on, this will make his sled run rich and also give poor fuel economy. Keep a real close eye on his plugs/jetting after checking the adjustment on the plungers to make sure that Mr.Squeaky doesn't pay a visit. Also clutching will play a role with fuel economy if it is under clutched or over clutched fuel economy will suffer. Tracy
