i just got done cleaning my carbs, when i put it all back together and started it, it wanted to rev up to like 4400 rpm, ive checked the throtle cable, the engine idle screw and i cant figure out why it is doin it, eventually it will come back down to idle but not for a while. you guys got any ideas what it could be?

Pilot jets maybe?
Is this only on warm up?
Blip the choke and it will come down quicker.

Hi-idle
Does it come down right away when u bleep the choke...if so than your not rich enough with the fuel screw (did you count the turns in to lightly seated or did you just adjusted to stock) cause it might have been set slightly richer from the dealer...just turn out 1/8 turn at a time...it sould not be more than a 1/8
Not to scare you but my 700 vip did this just before it blew...what I mean is I did the 1/8 or two more and still did it...a few T.Yers here suggested to spray startng fluid near the stator/recoil and near the pri/clutch, so I did still nothing. (the point of the starting fluid is, as it sucks it in ,it raises the rpms and that will tell you if you got a blown crank seal) Now I did do this but with the engine hot(not good), so this test did nothing for me. Basically I ignored it and well, I ended up with a costly rebuild...so do this test with a cold engine...You can pull your pri/clutch off and look at that seal, aswell as pulling the stator side apart and check things out...On mine the stator seal was blown, a silver sping (spring helps hold the seal to the crank) was just sitting there on the crank. No rubber left on the seal...
Now, since you just did the carbs and everything was fine before and things are going bad now...just double check everything like, boots to reeds, boots to airbox, etc...good luck and let us know how you did...

same as what theblues said....same thing happened to me before mine blew. took the carbs off twice to richen it up and it still revved hig till i blipped the choke....ended up needing crank seals...
but considering u said this didnt happen before u did the carbs u prolly just have air comin in somewhere like he said...
