Can you tell if a speedo cable has been removed from the back of the tach gauge? Looked at a 2000 SRX with 1400 miles but had the appearance of a 5000 mile sled.

If any of the "keys" (small, thin 2" long pieces of square metal) inside the speedo cable or speedo are missing, broken, or worn out that could cause incorrect mileage. With that issue though your speedometer would not work either. Just taking a stab at it.

If it looks bad, look for another sled, Lots for sale that are mint. Maybe more money but worth it in the long run. Just my 2 cents.

very easy (and deceitfull) to disconnect the cable and just run it without racking up miles. if it looks like it has 5000 miles, it probably has 7!

good way to check is the track condition, if its still stock, also check all the rod ends for play, check to see how much the skis are worn check bearings that are harde rto change like jackshaft.

sometimes sleds look like they have high milage cause the where not taken care of, or the where traillered with out a salt sheild or cover or if they are stored outside, it only takes one summer to rust the crap out of a sled if its not properly stored.

but yes it would be very easy to change the speedo
