Can someone point me in the direction of where I can find written/pic of a clutch kit install? I have a 2001 SRX. I am looking for it to be more responsive off the line. Could you also tell me what parts/part numbers I need for the complete install? I read about springs, helix, weights and just not sure how they all go together. Pics of each component would help if someone has put something together already.
I did do a search on the doc for the install and did not see anything. I also searched on what clutch kit and parts but there are so many talked about I do not know which one to get.
If I am semi mechanical is this an install I can do myself? Or should I bring it to the dealer? I think the dealer wants like $250 for a clutch kit and install.
Thank You,

you can do it yourself! its very easy in fact.. to put in a new spring and weights in primery you need to take of the front plate of your primery clutch, 6 bolts, then you take out the spring, its "loose" and you can get to the weights! they are only hold by one bolt each and you just put the new weights in the same way the old was ( curved) side agains the roller .. watch out for the shims on each side of the weight (where the bolt goes trough) two shims for each weight ( 3 weights) dont be afraid to try, you will handle it
as for the helix its easy, take off the secondery, then take off the 3 nuts on top of the helix ( tower) put a new helig in and set the spring to wanted degree! 70? bottom hole 2 helix hole 6, and twist it clockwise to you get to the bolts and put the nuts back on! finished!! hope this helps you!

Thanks So much. I kinda makes sense. I am visual so I will need to take a look at the sled with these directions and see if everything comes together in my head.
Is there a certain kit to buy? Does the kit include spring primary, spring secondary, weights and helix? I believe that is everything? From what I have read I need:
8bu-00 wights (I need 3 of These?)
Primary Spring (Not sure of the color need)
Helix 51-43 (?)
Secondary Spring (Green?) Set at 70 degrees
Does all this come in a kit? Or do I just go to the dealer and ask for this stuff. Did I list everything I need above?

Per Mr. Viper:
"much harder accelaration, much better backshift, its a very stout set up
8dn-20's with 4.5 rivets both holes, with either of the 2 following springs.
yamaha yellow/silver/yellow primary spring or a white/white/white yamaha spring, the white one is slightly more engagement speed is all.
w/w/w is 45/119, the y/s/y is 35/118
anyone of the following: 48-42, 50-42, 51/43,52-42 helix with green spring and set somewhere between 60-80, depends on your weight, traction, helix you choose, etc.
works in any year srx with great results"
All of these parts are readily available from the dealer. You should have 8dn-20 weights in there now, All you need is to get three 4.5g rivets and put them in the heel, change your springs in both clutches, and get a 51/43 helix (RX-1 helix from dealer) or you could get an good aftermarket helix such as 48-40 Advant-edge from Ulmer Racing, site sponsor here. Do a search, there is tons of info on here to help you through it. Go to the TY Technical pages and go to the "changing clutch components" page.

I am hoping they have a used 51/43 at the dealer other wise I will need to get a new one from them. If they do not have it in stock I will order the other you spoke about from the vendor on this site.
Did my list look good otherwise?
Thanks SO much

Yes your list looks fine. You should have a torque wrench for reinstalling the primary clutch, and I am assuming you have a clutch puller to remove it.
the clutch lit sounds fine.. you dont need to take the primery clutch off in order to put in a kit,. do it nice and easy and youll be fine, and once you have done its easy to remeber how to do it for the next time you want to tune

Thanks everyone I will give it a try this weekend. I do not have a clutch puller so I hope it does not need to be pulled off. If I get into a jam I will bring it to the stealer
Thanks Again

try psoting in the wanted section of the ty 4 stroke site. there may be rx1'ers that upgraded their RX1 and have 51/43's to sell used (cheaper than new).
the rivits are cheap at the dealer, ask for WWW spring and green springs on the 2 stroke section.
also. CB performance ( Bruce) may have the helix and/or springs for you too
you are building my exact setup in my 2000srx. except i have the red secondary (stock) spring. I went from getting whooped by 800 Rev's to beating all three (buddies) easily with this (turk's) setup. red and green are the two secondary springs recommended.
once you have it all isntalled. you may dial in the secondary windup to get your max rpm perfect. It should be 8300 for 98-99 srx. 8500 for 2000+
adding the numbers in the holes on the secondary parts equals your windup . ie. 2 and 6 = 80 deg windup when rotate clockwise to the first available install position. 1 and 6 would be 70 degrees.
when i get to work i can add some pics from when i did this ( documentation sent to buddies after I whooped them )

when you say 8500 what do you mean? Is it once I hit the throttle and stay on it my RPM's will stay at 8500 so the sleds pulls harder.
Thanks

for the best holeshot you want make it hit ca 8300 rpms and climb to 8500.. thats why you use a helix like 51-43.. makes it work harder when the angle is steep and gets more rpms as it gets to the shallow angel!

exactly what powerpack said
what i have learned through all this is that the srx motor hast the pull to allow you to shift faster without lugging it. that is what makes these clutch setups work, not leaving it in a low gear range, but actually shifting faster because the motor can keep up. the mid range accelleration is the main benefit that you can feel.
i'm still looking for my clutch disassembly pics

some detail
rivits = buy 4.5g and put in heel
drill the old ones out with a drill enough to punch them free
peen over new rivits with hammer
whatch that you don't loose or forget the washers ( bushings) you want the swing weights to rotate freely

oh... and note or mark the orientation of the "spring cover" ( 6 bolts) before removal. it is balanced.
hope this helps
