i had the same thing pictured in my head for the past two years, an adjustable helix with ramps adjusted by bolts. then after a while a saw them and was surprised at how close the design was to mine.

I love mine! Fast and easy way to change the RPMs when your out riding. May not be the right way to do it but it works.
