When I start my sled 99srx I have no tach, but when I turn the high beams on the tach and electrical system works? Any Idea where I should look first?

yep, the good ol wiring harness is shorted out under the recoil, this is very typical, unhook up at hood hinge, and then undo the little alum bend over clamps under pipes and engine, tie a string on plug ends and pull harness back from under engine by recoil, its alot easier if you remove the airbox and carbs, it gives you more room to work. Tape each rubbed thru wire seperately then all toghether and place harness in plastic convolute tubing and pull back under engine with string.

Just did mine last night. Carbs and air box and pipes are off so I decided to pull the harness as a precaution. Several areas the wires were just starting to show through. I'm glad I checked so I'm not caught out on the trail with problems.

did my SX long time ago for precautions and my buddy did it on his 99SRX after the lights would go on and off at random while on the trail.

I know what I'll be doing since I'm going to tear it down for inspection tomorrow.
