Lube or not to lube.

I don't but I'm not sure if thats the right way. Always need to clean compacted dust or other gunj from the jackshaft every time I remove the secondary so I always assumed that any kind of lub would just make the build up worse. Like you I would like to hear the real truth from some of the gurus.

Dry, but anti-sieze might not be a bad idea.I pull my secondary several times a season for servicing so i dont use anything. Perhaps someone else has the correct answer.

Anti-seize works best but not to much. Keeps them from seizing on if it does you will wish you put something on.

The pulley floats on the shaft and needs lube to move freely. Also to prevent spline wear. I have a sled that has about one half of the splines gone from wear - from high mileage and not being lubed often enough.

Yamaha recommends grease. It should have moly in it to reduce wear.

I had to change the jackshaft on my Phazer for the same reason. It had 20,000km on it at the time. Now has approx. 27,000km. That is one sled I will never sell.

anti seize has particles in it that can actually cause more ware. id use some low temp grease. thats why u cant use antisieze on sprokets or chains.

Dont use anti-sieze, as terret said it has small particles of metal in it that will actually promote wear of the splines. Just use some low temp grease, which is what comes on them from new anyway.
