C&A skis not fitting

I bought a set of C&A Advantage "D" skis a couple months back. Since the sled was torn down, I never checked to see if they fit. Last night as I am finishing up my project I tried to mount the spindle into the ski and found that the ski is too narrow and also that the rubber "snubber" is too long to fit between the bolts that hold the carbides on.

I have a 2000 Vmax which came with steel skis originally and then I had a set of Yamaha SX-R plastic on it.

Does anyone have any recommendations or am I stuck with a set of skis that don't fit?

Thanks,
Al

I just mounted a pair of C&A outlaws to my 2000 sxr. only thing I had to do was modify the rubber mount about a 1/4" narrower so that it would fit in between the saddle. no other issues on mine. it is a pain to get the bolt to slide all the way through the first time you do it, but it does fit.

I have the same skis (c&a Adv on a 98 SX Vmax) and they just bolted right on. I never cut the mount. Make sure you have the Yamaha mount. I think I had jacked the sled up near the belly pan when I let the jack down I slid the bolt in.

the rubber should be 1 7/8 to 2" wide.they did have a batch that were to wide.i used a miter saw to quick cut.the saddle is a tight fit sometimes and you might need to pry it apart a bit.other then that they will fit on that sled.

Here is the picture of my problem. I don't have an issue if I need to force the spindle in the saddle, better tight than loose, but the rubber block not fitting seems like I would have to cut a lot, check the pics.

I have a call into the manufacturer and they had me send pics so we will see what they have to say.

Ok, I see your point. Yes it should fit betwwen the two carbide bolts. Mine does not look like that, they are not that close? You have the right idea on the install: put both gold bushings in (they are flush with ski wall), rubber piece and put the bolt through and let the jack down and it will fit in.

You may have skis for another sled maker and not a Yamaha.

freeze 'em and mill 'em

Guys,

I had the same problem when I mounted my C&A's to my '99. All I did was freeze the rubber spacers and then use a mill to make a releif for each of the carbide bolts. It worked great but you have to freeze the rubber to make it dense enough for a mill to cut it easily and not tear them up.

that looks like a sport model ski to me not the ad.on the ad model ( and all other models)the carbide stud spacing doesnt interfer with rubber.if the ski isnt 6" wide all the way from front to back it sa sport model 5" wide and tapers down in the back.

Al those look like original sport skis which are 5" wide with 16.5" long carbides and the studs are mounted at 2 1/4", 6", 10", 14" for which you can use a low budget hole saw or drum sander to cut a vertical groove for access to the bolts for change'n out the carbides... or a friend with a mill would be better...

Rich and Yamadooed,
You guys were right, they are a Sport model. I have talked with C&A and they are sending me a set of Advantage X and I can keep the Sports. They are great to work with, no hassle at all. This one move on their part will have me selling C&A's to anybody that asks me about them! Of course I need to see how they perform, but I can't say enough about their sales and service people!

They said that you can just keep the sports!?!?! Dang!!!

I spoke with Jay, who was down on the shop floor whenever I called, which I like, I prefer to talk to someone in production when I have product issues. He measured things and confirmed with parts he had that there was an issue. Also Angie, not sure which department, but she took care of the logistics.

The guy I bought them from said he got them from you Rich, but I think that must have been some time ago since these are pretty dated?

Angie asked where I got them from and I told her the same story, really nice they didn't mind that I got them second hand and they still helped me out!
