If you shave your heads and port them slightly do you have to rejet? if so up or down? I have a 97 500 xt Ive been reading for a while and cant find the proper specs for this sled. I read to shave them 8 thou, and somone said not to bother to rejet and someone said to rejet. Can you still do the head gasket mod if you shave? 
The 500 twin has very fat jetting stock. Might want to run premium with a compression bump. I have never had to re-jet after a mild trail porting.

Should I do the head gasket mod after shaving off 8 thou? If so how many gaskets do you reccomend? When porting do you reccomend filing out the square blocks inside the head at all? Thanks for all the help and Info.

If you are getting the head shaved dont run a thinner headgasket. That is the point in shaving the head, so that you dont need to run a thinner gasket. It does the same thing.
