Hey, i know this issue has been debated a lot on here and I am open to all inputs and opinions. I bought a 02 Viper off this site a few months back and got an awsome deal and am very pleased with the sled. It has 5000 miles with some clutching done, studs and a bender can. Purchased off original owner (who is meticulous), he has run Yamalube in it since day one, sled still has adequate compression (130-130-115) and no blowby. Was wondering if I should a)continue running yamalube and leave motor alone b)Drain oil tank and switch to Amsoil or c) Re-ring motor(already have rings and gaskets) and start fresh with amsoil. Just want the sled to perform and be reliable so any help on this would be appreciated.
Thanks

C if you already have rings and gaskets in hand, then I'd go that way. Its not as big of a task as some people think to re ring a motor. Gunna tell ya what Mr.Viper has said COUNTLESS times on this site, you should re-ring a 2 stroke after 2500-3000miles. By doin this youll always have a sled thats running like new and youll get more life outta your pistons. But its your call. I just re-ringed my motor after 2000 miles cause I had rings in hand and its only a few hour job as long as you have the right tools and dont run into problems. Such as chipped cylinders like me, but I'm glad I caught the problem cause it could have gotten more pricey than just replacing or replating cylinders.

I'm not one to pawn what I use to others..so I won't...but personally I'd ride it with whats in it...if the previous owner was dedicated to Yamalube..thats great...I totally respect that...he's very true to his machine...
If you feel the need to change up when you see the light go on then do it...I'd persnoally check yer Valves before you change over tho...then you can make a comparison next year if you change the rings etc...
Or you could change the rings altogether...and start from scratch...I'd wait 1 more year...but some say it could be to late..
Just my two cents...

Throw the new rings in it and run amsoil. I'm curious as to how you know you have no blowby? Have you already had the engine apart to inspect it? I can 99.9% guarantee that with 5000 miles on it you have blowby by the wrist pins on all pistons, haven't seen one yet that didnt with those miles. Throw the rings in it, clean the powervalves, and run some inteceptor. No need to drain the oil tank to switch over to the interceptor, just run the yamalube decently low and make the switch, there is no issue with mixing.

Dont listen to me,, I HAVE BAD REPUTATION!!!!!!Thanks ejcamaro!!!! gary Oles nosboy

Re-ring every 2-3 thousand miles? That's nuts IMO. My 9,000 mile stock MachZ was always faster than my buddies that agreed with you guys. It really pissed him off as I walked on by.
