hello,
I'm wondering what you guys are getting for fuel mileage with the exciter 570's. mine runs perfect, but seems really hard on gas. maybe 2 hours of riding on a tank.
i was out riding with me brother last weekend, he has a 1991 Phazer, and I used twice the fuel he did. I burned 15 Gallons , he burned only about 8. we were both riding at the same pace.

Is there something wrong with my sled? or were all exciters hard on gas?

Thanks,
Russ

There is not a thing wrong. that is about what mine does, you might check the plugs and see if it running on the fat side. But that is about it, and they use oil. Well mine does.

I've had many Phazers and presently have 3 and they are exceptionally easy on gas depending on how they are ridden (trails/easy on the thumb) I see as high as 17mpg ! So, if you compare them to an Exciter 8-12 you'll be disappointed ! The Exciter like alot of the 80's and early 90's Yamaha's suffered from small gas tank's. I have a tempa flow which I may try on my 90 Exciter this winter. Check your plugs and piston wash maybe you're jetted on the rich side ?

you should be getting about 12 mpg with the Exciter. That is what I was averaging when I had my 1993.

^^^ i agree, they get better then that.

check, clean and adj. your carbs to fact. spec., new plugs, check, clean
clutches and look for worne out parts.

adj track to proper tension, oh and last, keep yo thumb outa it!!!

just a few things to get ya started..

Ya right keep my thumb out of it. Simpler said than done.

I would bet you could drop your needles a notch, to help the fuel, but for some reason every sled I have ever owned ALWAYS gets worse mileage, I think it has to do with the twitch in my right thumb. my 89 exciter after porting & pipe mod got @ 6-7 mpg and I watched the wash and kept leaning it till I was getting @ 10-12 riding??

Ok, we all know the Absurdly small tanks Yamaha put on the 1980's and early 90's snowmobiles - Vmax540 6.3 gal, Exciter 8.2 gallons ! And since, I think too much...... I decided to put a 1.5 gal. auxillary tank on the Exciter from a old AMF riding mower. Built a tapered 2" wedge seat riser (to clear the heat exchanger hoses), next get out the presision cutting tool (Saw's all ) :) and cut the bottom of the luggage box, insert tank and fasten, finish by running the fuel line to the main tanks vent line !

If every group is like mine......I can't wait to fill up just the main tank at the first gas stop and everyone will be looking at the gallons I used (like we all do...) I'll simply say yea..... it's a YAMAHA...... 0) :) ! ! !
