For those of you who have painted their screens, did you remove them to paint them??

All of my screens are held in with goddam pop-rivets!! WTF??

Did you just drill out the rivets, paint, then re-rivet?? or were they different from year to year?

I dont want to risk painting them while still in the hood.....

Any ideas?

I drilled mine out, then replaced the rivets with ss nuts and bolts-wished the srx had the same set up as the viper...in the viper they are only help on by clips, pop right on and off.

I drilled out the rivets and used small bolts, washer and nylon locking nuts. This way if i need to remove to touch up it is alot easier...........James

I have a viper and they were held in by clips. I removed clips and pilled pin on the hood screen. Rough up the screens and paint with white rust stoping paint. A couple of good coats but do not make it run. I have had it for a year and it still looks new.

Gees am I the only one who (atleast) plan to rivet them back on ?. :). I`ve waited several weeks for the right rivets and now you tell me to use bolts to mount them?.

Hehe:). I just want everything to be like stock.. but who gives a shit anyway. I imagine the air-collector for the brake disc will be hard to rivet on?.

Wellwlel

I CANNOT BELIEVE how much work it took to get all 7 grill inserts out!!! Unbelievable!!
Took me longer to get all the inserts out, then it did to remove the skid and exhaust

As if they couldn't have used the plastic "reusable" rivets....like they use on cars??

Oh well, hard parts over....If you saw my other posts, I am in the process of putting in the new ripsaw....new sliders, bearings, new skis already on, snowflap etc

I am very close to putting in all the new stuff.....everything is now out...total re-assembly will start on wednesday

The guy who owned my sled before me decided to paint the screen over the pipe without removing it or even taping it, and he painted it silver to boot. What a mess. I had alot of overspray to clean off.
I ended up removing all of mine and painted them. I did rivet all them back on. I didn't have any small bolts. The rivets worked fine for me.
Good luck.
:letitsnow Please

the shank size I am going with is 13/64.....cuz I need 4 bolts to mount my new snow flap...and the max size of that shank is 13/64.....you can go up to a 1/4" shank for the vent ones.

Heres a couple of pics of mine...... I used stainless steel 10/24 bolts and stainless lock nuts. I hate it when stuff rusts! Let me know what you guys think!!!!
