I bought a track from a buddy.
the studs seemed too long and in fact after one season on my srx. I have 4 or 5 riopped out and many bent.
when i took one off and measured it. ( push through type)
it measures 1.71" high setting the round head on a table and measuring the carbide tip
what lenght is this stud actually ( a 1.what.....")
and how/where would you measure a 1.175" stud and get that dimension
thanks
thanks

The thing about stud lengths is that no two companies do it the same. A 1.075 woody's might be longer than a 1.08 Roetin, etc. Every company does it differently, which is why it is best to just find someone that has the same stud as you and compare it with them. Also, stud ripouts and breakage are more often a result of riding conditions and riding style. Yes length also does play a role in it, but only to a certain point. i have had a couple sleds with over 6,000 miles on them and no rip outs or breaks, but i ride in good snow conditions and dont punch it from every intersection and up every hill with low snow, etc. Some people just dont use their head when riding with studs.

you measure him by the truck he drives, or how fast his snowmobile is
I think woody's, when comparing to the woody's website.
I have never had any studs pull out in all my snowmobiling. but this track had studs on center only, not very many, and what looked to be too long.
I ride very smooth ( carry speed through corners, instead of snowcross type stop and go at each turn) I don't use my brake during hard trail riding i feather with throttle, and never gun it on railroad tracks, road crossings, etc.
some studs were already bent when I put the track on my srx
so I want to add more studs ( outside row as all other sleds I have had them) and get the correct height. replacing existing studs if needed.
it is a 1" polaris 121 , so I want 1.017 studs. just need to confirm what the old ones are and feel good that my money spent on new studs is appropriate.
are you saying that a 1.71 tall woody's is considered a 1.175? of equiv. length
if they are, then maybe the correct amount ( 168+) will correct the issue.
thanks

They dont make a 1.71", they make a 1.075" and a 1.175". To me, those look like 1.175" studs if that is a 1" track.

They don't look too tall to me. Looks like there are some that have snapped off.

its hard to tell by that pic what brand but the backers are stud boy power plates.if they are woody they will say that on the head.if you take a piece of paper and lay across lugs near studs and see what sticks up past that.
1.075=1/4" past lug
1.175=3/8"
1.325"=1/2" ( thats what they almost look like to me from that angle)
1.075"=1 1/2" total height
1.175"=1 5/8" ( close to your 1.7" measurement)
1.325"=1 3/4"
1.075=1/4" past lug
1.175=3/8"

1.325"=1 3/4"
