hello,
My old 1990 exiter blew apart last weekend, I pulled it apart to find PTO side piston to have a broken exhaust skirt and a cracked intake skirt. the Mag side piston also had a craked intake skirt. this entire motor was rebuilt about 1000 miles ago. (included crank job, pistons and oversize bore <.010 over>.
Never seen skirt breakage before, especially on a fresh engine.
what do you guys suggest I look at for a culprit in the problem??
thanks,
Russ

Did you check piston to cly. clearance before your put it together??
sounds like the pistons were rocking in the bores..

Daman, I don't know. I just bought the sled this fall and the guy I bought it from had a $950 reciept for a complete motor rebuild at a local sled shop with a good reputation. Does anyone know the bore & piston sizes so I can measure them to see it this was the problem?
Thanks,
Russ

I'm sure if you asked your shop they would deny it,it would be nice to
find the specs and check it your self, not saying that's 100% the problem
but it sure is funny it only lasted 1000 miles then a skirt went...

i do not know the answer as to what happened, but i do believe mrviper does some cylinder repair work and you might ask him if he is able to repair them instead of buyin new
