I have an 02 viper with a very rough suspension. the suspension is stock and i am wondering what suggestions you guys have to smooth it out. i do most of my riding in the u.p. i go about 250 lbs and the sled only has about 600 miles on it. any help would be great . thanks

There are still a few dealers out there i guess that have the shock revalve package from yamaha still available (while updated sets last), but i have no idea which dealers still have some left. If someone else knows hopefully they will jump in. Otherwise as n2oiroc said, Bruce at pioneer performance does great work. Had him do a ton of rebuilding, and revalving for me, really a great guy to deal with and really knows his stuff. His site is pioneerperformance.net.

I had the Yamaha upgrade shocks put on mine. Helped greatly. The '02's were valved wrong from the factory. What town are you in? I am sure there are some shops around you that may do the revalving too. If you ever get to the Twin Cities, there is a guy in South St. Paul that does a ton of shock work. If you want his number, I will PM it to you.

if you weigh that much plus gear, i would go with revalving. those updated shocks work great but are valved soft and i doubt your going to be happy with your weight and that valving.

if your going to keep the sled and can afford it, install an m10, they are great.

if you just want new shocks that ride better, go with works, tell them your weight and they will come sprung and valved correctly.

If i take my shocks off my dealer will revalve them for $35 a piece . is this a decent price?

Sounds too good to be true. You might want to inquire as to what exactly is included in this price.

That sounds too cheap. Not many dealers actually re-valve shocks. You have to carry a license to acquire the nitrogen tanks and be certified to use them around here. Most dealers figure it's too much of a hassle and send them out to the few shops that actually are very well trained at rebuilding them. Hmmmmm....

turns out the guy filling in for the service manager didn't quite have the price right. they want 35 to r&i the shocks and 85 to revalve them. oh well, guess i'll take them elsewhere.

Sent mine there fully rebuilt and revalved for about 90 bucks a peice, about 45 for revalving alone, a very nice ride right now, however i am riding on grass at the moment

I think I might take mine in this year too. My shop said he'd do all for $250.00 if I bring the sled in. I don't have to turn a wrench. I thought that was a decent price being I don't have the time to take them off myself. Yahadriver. Where did you get the Yamalube sticker for the bellypan? I've been looking for one of those.

Lol, not my sled! I found the picture about 4 years ago when the viper first came out and thats how i fell in love with them! I would ask the dealer, they gotta be at least good with that i mean they do sell the stuff!

i just had mine done at shock therapy and after talking to them, the guy told me that the problem with the viper shocks is the valving is to soft and the rebound is way to slow. he stiffened mine up and made them rebound faster. when i had them off the sled and the springs removed i could push them all the way down pretty easy and then they real slowly came back. when i got them back it was hard to push them down but they came back faster. he said when you hit the first bump the suspension would stroke down but never recover in time for the second bump. now the front sits up higher and when i push down it actuall comes back up. no snow to test, but deff feels better
