I can't seem to hook up on the ice..i have 192 chisel tooths in good shape..just put them in for grass season...I have my limiters pulled up and transfer rods tight..I have 40 more chiesels left should I replace 40 of them and loosen the transfer rods up alittle?I tried it on one lake when it was warmer and it hooked great but since the cold cold weather it doesn't hook up as well...I have a race to attend and would like some help..thanks guys

You can run a little bit of gap on the transfer rods for a little better hook up on hard ice conditions if you aren't running ice picks. But if you really want to hook up on the HARD ice conditions you are going to need some ice picks if you want every last bit of speed (meaning you don't want to run any weight transfer)

alright, I thought chisels were good for the ice? If i loosen up the grap alittle on the transfer rods...should I leave my limiter straps where they are?

Ya i'd say something is wrong to, i know the suspension is totally different but with 144 trail studs i can hook up no problem on ice with a little slippage

He has added the traction and it still spins?Could it be those long transfer rods are keeping the skid from transfering?

well about 2 weeks ago when the ice was soft..i could hook right up ...not spin a bit but after a couple rain days and then cold cold weather the ice has been really hard..I have my limiters up all the way and transfer rods closed up...the sled moves alright i mean its getting some traction but its still spinning off the line real bad...the picks are excellent..maybe put the 40 extra in and replace 40 used ones..and put alittle transfer gap on the rods...should be alright..i know the ice is real hard..i mean if i look at my track down the ice after awhile its just indiviual pick holes..so i know after so many feet its hooking up..

unless the old chisels are worn down a lot the 40 new ones will only make a slight difference IMO, i've had the same studs since i bought my sled 3 years ago and there also worn down a bit but they dont greatly affect the traction on mine, by the sounds of it, the problem lays in your suspension setup not your studs, chisels should have no problem hooking up.

How long are the chisels and what is your track lug height? Loosen the rear shock in the suspension and tighten the front shock in the suspension. As stated above, loosen the limiters all the way out. This will put more track on the ground. Also sharpen the chisels. Soften the transfer rods or add adjustable ones.

I just need to loosen my transfer rods up alittle bit to allow alittle transfer...the track/studs hieght is appropriet for racing. I was told by many racers on the site how to set up the suspension and the sled I was just wondering whether to loosen the limiters or the rods alitle...if you have play in your suspension your ET time will suffer and you'll loose top end mph..you need the suspension in the rear as stiff as it will go as long as it will hook..less movement means more speed. I think the ice was just very hard and I needed alittle transfer as where i had none..but about two weeks ago I had the same set up and it would about yank the handle bars out of your hands on the lake...softer ice i believe..better bite

Still you are set up for top end only or for running on grass.Chisels are a drag raceing pick and will slow you down on top end because of there digging action. But thats going for speed runs not 1000 ft.The best setup of the day will win so dont be afraid to buck the trend and find the best setup using the spring settings and rod settings that are advalible to you.Put the sled on a level surface lower front springs down from trail ride hieght.Loosen the limiters right off, tighton the spring untill tight, pull limiters back up untill tight than go a little farther.Open the transfer rods all the way than adjust the big spring tighter if need be.Use the fra to adjust transfer at the track! Try the middle!go to the top if it transfers to mutch to the very bottom if you want more.
