As stated above.

02 had the DCS, slightly different main jets, different style side hood graphics, and a few LBS lighter.
Not to much difference. Believe it or not, a 98 and 02 are completey different animals.

I thought so to tom, it would make sense since the 2000 srx's ran the same jets as the 2002 but without the dcs system on them which is why some of them blew up. Now it doesnt make sense to go up a jetsize but still port the engine better, it makes more sense to port the 2002 better since it has the dcs system on it to prevent it from detonating, thats IMO not 100% sure of this

mines ported anyways by mrviper, piston mod and heads cut about .012 -.013
I had to go up one jet size form stock for the porting; mine will never detonate with good fuel.
In a few weeks im having the air box gutted and having 35.5mm carbs installed so have to richen it up 1 more jet size on the mains and 1 up on the pilot.

I looked on Yamaha's parts fiche. 2000-2002 all the same cylinder.

i knew they were all the same # but have heard stories about them being ported slightly different. I dont know if it is a myth or not but why would a 2002 have de-tuned cylinders from a 2001 or 2000

2000 were jetted lean, 2001 they bumped up jetting 1 jet size, 2002 they went back to same specs as in 2000 since the DCS should save you. Powervalve, timing curves, etc all the same from 2000-2002.

Did people burn down 2000 SRX's in the past because of that?

Yes, in cold temps burn down could occur. There was a Tech Bulletin S99-010 for 2000 SRX jetting.

Yup exactly as Allen said. The 2001 also has one size leaner pilots than the 2000 and 2002. Porting is the same on all 2000-2002.
