Last time I rode had 8DN-20 weights.....85g innner and 2.7 outer.YGY spring c/w four engagement shims....51/43 Helix c/w green spring wrapped to 80.Had the 14.5 stock rollers in.Was pretty close.8100 at launch and nice climb to 8500 and great pull.
Now just changed to 15.6 mm rollers, put stock Yamaha belt back on in stead of the Altimax 3 belt.Everything else the same. Now launches at 8600 and climbs to 8800..maybe 8900 on the rpm's.What is my next move here.

was thinking, maybe 3.6 in tip. That will drop my rpm at top about 300 to around 8500...right.What about launch rpm...it is waqy to high at 8600 now.Going to switch belts to the Alimax 3 and see what happens.

Boy is this crazy.Put the Ultimax3 belt in and my launch rpm's are 8100 and pulls to 8500 wot.Why would it change so much because of belts.Wonder if I should just use the Ultimax for tuning.

Before you start to add mass to your weights, back down on the secondary to 70 for a better shift. Than you can decide whether or how much mass to the weight you need to add. Those rollers will do that with the RPMs

The ultimax is a softer belt & grabs better but won,t last as long. You gotta clutch for 1 belt or the other. You will see 2-300 rpm,s difference in the belts. To use the yammie 8dn belt you gotta add about 2 grams inner & about 2 more to the tip

I will try that when I can get more rivets Turk. For now with the Ultimax belt and wrapped to 70,actually dropped my rpm's even more.8000 launch to 8300 wot.Clutches are somewhat hotter, think the belt slips a bit. Will go back to 80 wrap for now.I'll try removing the .85 from the inner to see if it gets my launch rpm's up.Only hit 140 km's/hr today at 0 degrees C.Rpm's were only at 8300.Room for improvement.Didn't have that kick today Turk. With the smaller rollers seemed to have more of a rapid pull to 8500.Here we go again.....more testing and more testing.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Turk how about 3.1 inner and 3.6 outer. That's all I have for now. If the 3.1 is a little heavy, could always drill hole in centre of rivet to lighten it a bit.First I will put the 8DN belt back on wrapped at 70 to see what happens, then go from there.

Well Turk put 3.6 in outer hole and 3.1 in inner hole.I still launch at8400 and she climbs and stays at 8500 now. This is with the 8DN belt.I actually drilled a 1/8 in hole in the middle of the 3.1 g to lighten because you told me to try 2.7 g which I don't have.Got the top end rpm to drop from 8900 to 8500.Bottom is a mystery yet.I am wrapped at 70 in the secondary.

The reason it pulled more down low before is because going to a larger roller makes the weight act less aggressive, the larger rollers increase the engagement and shift rpm and provide less force. .

If the peak torque curve is less than 8400, you might want to back out a tiny bit of weight in the inner hole since you say it launches at 8400. after that, IF, and only IF you need to, add that weight back to the tip.

I would leave your secondary alone now and precisely tune your primary. If your sleds peak torque curve is the same as my SRX which is 8200. might want to back off that inner hole a little.

My my peak torque curve should be 8500 rpm,s.I got that now,I added more weight to the inner and she dropped slightly from 8600 to 8400 when launching, but need a launch rpm of 8200.I should actually put more weight in the inner holes, not less right.I should try maybe 4.5 g in the inner holes.I think I am all mixed up now.

I had better performance with the 14.5 mm rollers,8DN-20 weights,.8g inner and 2.7 g outer.Launched at 8100 and pulled strong to 8500.Now since I put in the 15.6 rollers and switched from Ultimax 3 belt back to 8DN belt,I am all over the place...I just can't win here.

It did,was really close a set up I ever had.Now that was with the Utimax 3 belt.If I would of replaced the belt with the 8DN belt, for sure rpm's would be different again and higher.I should throw away the max belt and tune to the OEM belt.Or keep the max belt on for this season until it goes.It is getting tired of taking the clutch apart over and over again.Maybe I should try the OEM belt as my main and go back to 14.5 rollers and run the weights empty and see what I get.

hey 2001,you meant to throw the max belt out...rightor I could keep it as a spare in case I blow the OEM belt. And as for adding more weight to the heel, how is that going to lower my launch rpm which is about 200 rpm to high. With the 3.6 g in outer holes,my wot rpm is 8500.
