I have a 98 Venture 600 with smart carbs, what exactly are they and how do they work differently then regular carbs and are there different things to adjust thank you

SMART Carb system it automatically adjusts fuel flow to optimum settings for changes in air temperature and elevation.

Buddy had them onhis 97 Venture. His his ran a little rich on 1 side and the dealer couldn't seem to cure it. Ran a hotter plug on that side for a while. and it seemed to cure it. Asked him if he had cleaned them in a while. NOPE!
The ports that recognize the barometric pressure were plugged with belt dust.
This was on the PTO side, so it made sense that carb wasn't adjusting properly. Cleaned both and PTO side still ran richer. Switched carb's from side to side and VOILA!! Ran perfect 'til he got rid of it.

Only other thing to watch out for is if you ride on extremely humid and wet days or are running in a lot of deep powder, there is a chance the compensator will freeze up. Will still let you ride home at a 1/4 throttle. Only way to thaw out is to get in where it is warm for a while.
Found out that by running a little iso-heet in the gas, you won't have that problem. About a 1/2 bottle to tank.
