So after many many hours of getting the old Vipe ready for the season, last night after getting her put back together, she is running worse then before I started.

Symptoms:
1. Idles high and erratic, R's up and down, between 1500-2500??
2. Give it gas and bogs something fierce.
3. Warning light stays on. not flashing

Meds taken already:

1. Air box and carbs thoroughly cleaned including blowing out vent and carb lines.
2. Syphoned tank and added 2 gals. of fresh premium
3. Checked all cables and wiring
NOTE this seems to be a problem that has steadily worsened over time. It started with a high idle, then it went to a bog when I hit it from an idle position and now this.

My guesses so far:

1. TPS
2. Valves appear clean, but I don't know if they need adjusting, they seem to be flush.
3. Electrical??

Help me please..going crazy.

When my powervalve cable pulled threw the valve the machine still idled properly, not sure if this helps at all, take your tps off and a multmeter and see what the change in resistance is, then try and get the specific resistance changes from yamaha and compare, this is how they test automobile tps's so it should work the same in sleds

The reving problem sounds like the trottle cable is to tight causing the TORS to kick in and the pilot screw might be out of spec. Were the carbs clean or green?

Add some more gas. I dumped my old gas and the light came on because I had only 1 1/2 gals in the tank. Good luck.

Happy New Year! Sorry I haven't responded sooner, comp. troubles and the Holidays. Thanks for all the help fellas. XSIVHP...that is spot on how mine sounds, cept mine is worse. Now what? how do I bypass it to make sure, then how do I adjust it? betheviper I sent you a PM.

There two wires from the sensor will bypass it if you just connect them together on both ends. The fix is in proper throttle cable adjustment. I think you are suppose to have 1/16 of play in the throttle cable at the lever.

That sounded to me like the Viper running in "safe mode" Yamahas have a built in safety feature that limits RPM's to prevent engine damage, that exact thing happened to my buddy's viper last year, it was because of an improper fuel/air mixture, good luck!

if it sounds like the sound clip in this post its the tors kicking in, u shud b able to cure it by loosening the throttle cable a bit...
