So i just got a new engine in this sled and I'm working out the kinks. I've had it for a year and a half now but due to some very unfortunate circumstances and a trip to Idaho that I'd rather like to forget I haven't had much chance to ride it.

Few quick questions:

What would be the target RPM and max RPM for this sled with bender pipes?
I have also ported the cylinders, split the head gasket and done the reed stopper notch with reed spacers.

Currently it hangs out around 8500 and tops at about 9000, seems a little high for me.

What twist do you guys like on your secondary?
What RPM should the down shift occur at?
I mostly climb hills and ride mountains

It runs great except at low RPMs I periodically get a mild bog as well as sometimes a pop from the exhaust. Where do I want to start looking first? Jetting? Electrical?

Thanks for any info guys.

a mild bog and a backfire could be too lean on the needles.....

For benders you want to launch at about 8400/8500 rpm, and climb to 8700 rpm max. What are you currently running for clutching? You want to add about 1 gram to the tip of each weight for starters depending on what you are running right now.

As for the low end bog. Are you saying it bogs right off the start if you punch the throttle? If so, it sounds like your pilots are too lean or fuel screws aren't set right. What are you running for jetting?

Add 2-3 grams to tip. your probably lean on the needles; raise em 1/2. You need bigger pilots too; especially at elevation.

Not sure on the jets or the clutching. I cleaned the carbs but didn't check to see what the jets were. I'll look into that this week, I'll check the clutch and see what's in it now.

Sure thing Turk. I'll check that out tomorrow when it's light outside. I really should have written that down when I had it apart.

Elevation is around 7000-8000, and on rare occasions 8000-10000.

Thanks for the help guys.
