I just bought a 1970 Yamaha sales brochure off ebay (I think it is a Canadian brochure). It does not have the SS338 in it. I was wondering if this model was in the U.S. brochure or if it was a late release and therefore not in any brochure? thankx. :2strokes:

It was a late release. I have the 70 Brochure and it's not listed. All the yamaha parts books call the SS396 and SS338 1969 models. I had a cherry one but sold it last spring.Just to many sleds. Still have a 70 SS396 to restore. My SS338 had a vin number around 00980. I believe Yamaha started the numbers at 00101. They probably made around a 1000 of them. Very hard to find today.
Whats your Vin number? Stamped in the fan case above the recoil and just to the left of the mud flap in the steel gusset that supports the running board. Or do you even have one?

thanks for the responce, no I don't have an SS338. I sold all of my old sleds except for my '81 SS440. I'm trying to give up collecting the sleds to save time and money. Collecting the brochures has been helpful with keeping me away from buying more sleds (I walked away from 2 sleds this year that I really wanted!). My friend thought I was kinda crazy buying all these brochures until one night when he called me telling me about some cool old sled he found and wouldn't mind buying just to have, but he didn't have the extra cash. I said now maybe you can understand why I'm buying the brochures!
