I have read and and used the manual method of adjusting the powervalves on SRX's and Vipers that I have read off this site and all the ones I have done run beautifully. My question is this I have one customer that likes to listen to everyone else and she is concerned about me not haveing that special tool. Do I really need it and would things be different if I used it?

Thank you

You can buy the tester and do it the correct way. You can also do it your way and do it the right way.

I bet Yamaha makes money on those testers.

I`m not a pro but I`ve adjusted several valves with no issues, just using the feel-that-they-are-flush-at-the-exhaust-port method.

The only way to find out is to adjust them, put manifoil & pipes back on, and then fire it up and run it, then pull the pipes & manifoil and feel if they are as flush as they were when you adjustet them?.

Thanks to all that replied. I have been doing them without a tester for a long time with no issues. Just sometimes makes you second guess yourself and I hate that.

For my 03 Viper I made a harness to open the valves. On the Vipers (non ER) they have a service connector to apply battery power (12 volts) to the CDI box as the ER's do that have a battery. The connector is located on the right side of the machine under the cover next to the tunnel. It's a 3 wire connector, 1) RED 2) BLACK 3) RED W/WHITE, apply 12 volts positive to the 1) RED wire and ground the 2) BLACK wire, the 3) RED W/WHITE is for starter relay (not used for adjusting power valves). Once you have the 1) RED and 2) BLACK wire connected to a battery, turn the key to the "on" position. This will operate the servo motor and open the valves. Now remove the exhaust manifold and feel the valve in the port and adjust the cable at the servo motor. Once you have all 3 valves adjusted, install the exhaust manifold and remove the "test" harness from the service connector. -Ed

The ER's

The ER's have a battery installed for the starter motor and do not need a "test harness". As long as your battery is charged up just turn the key to the "on" position and this will operate the servo motor and open the valves. -Ed
