We have a 2000 Venture that has been doing some strange things for a couple years now.

First, when starting the sled it will fire right up, as soon as it fires the choke goes off. The sled idles great for about 1-2 minutes then the rpms slowly drop until she shuts off. The sled will then only stay running without getting on the throttle if it is taken for a run and is really warmed up. When you first take off after being cold it does smoke quite a bit and bogs, it will clear up quickly then run fine.

Also, if the sled idles in one spot for more then 5-10 seconds it leaves a pretty decent black mark in the snow coming from the muffler.

Any ideas? Plugs are good. Carbs were cleaned not to long ago. Seafoam has been run through and there was no change.

Yea my 485 '94 PZ did that for awile till i jetted down a little and set
throttle end play and put the oil pump to the recomended leanest end,
seems better know, but still does it once an awile, i think it's just the
nature of the beast for that mill..

that didn't help mine,no matter where i put it....

Just a thought, we have three venturs and a phazer all with the 485, bullet proof motor, but only one will stay running after a cold start (phazer) after they are warm no problems. Remember to torque those heads and cylinders, :2strokes: they do come loose.

yup i agree no problem...:)

If I crank the idle screw up it will stay running. Although when the engine becomes warm the idle is then way off. Are they instructions somewhere on checking the adjustment for the oil cable?

Are you familar where to adj. it?,down on the carb bracket where the throttle and oil cables go into???

wish i had a pic for that style pump but i don't..

Honestly I have not even begun to look at it yet as I am to depressed with the lack of snow! I will take a look and see if I can locate it.
