Sorry to hear, I had a dog killed by a truck right in front of my house two years ago, the bastard driving the truck (pick up) didn't even have the balls to stop. My dog wieghed 110 lbs so he knew he hit it. Take it easy, remember all of the good times.

As I posted in Rich's thread I don't know how I'd deal or how I will when I lose my Lab... she's 10. My thoughts are with you......It must be so hard...I won't tell you what to do to replace the pain other than to remember all the fun you had.....a Dog isn't just like a family member to most.....a dog is a family member......good luck friend

Hey I just reads the poem you posted on Rich's post, and that is great. I know how you both must feel. I had to put the family cooker 15, and cat 14 down last year. Take some time greive and find a new "friend" Thats the good thing about pets, the next one will love you too.
Letter From Your Pet in Heaven
To my dearest family,
some things I'd like to say.
But first of all, to let you know,
that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from the Bridge.
Here I dwell with God above.
Here there are no more tears of sadness.
Here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy
just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I am with you
every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you
when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me
and He said, "I welcome you.
It's good to have you back again,
you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family,
They'll be here later on."
God gave me a list of things,
that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list,
was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night
the day's chores put to flight,
God and I are closest to you...
in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth,
and all those loving years,
because you are only human,
they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry:
it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers,
unless there was some rain.
But one thing is for certain,
though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now,
than I ever was before.
There are rocky roads ahead of you
and many hills to climb;
But together we can do it
by taking one day at a time.
When you're walking down the street
with me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps
only half a step behind."
"And when it's time for you to go...
from that body to be free.
Remember you're not going...
you're coming here to me."

Sorry to hear about your loss. My lab is approaching 11 and has fatty tumors all over him. He still acts like a pup but I know what is coming. He is like one of the family. I will try to focus on the many years of loyalty and friendship he provided. Dogs are great and never judge you. They like you for who you are. I dread the day I will have to put him down. I plan on taking him out for a swim, a burger and ice cream before him. In my area there is a kennel that has a garden that they spread your pets ashes after they cremate them and do a little ceromony for you.

I'm so sorry for your loss. All of the dogs in my life have always established a deep connection with me. My current "Angel" (6 Yr old Golden Retriever) has in her own qwerky way, done it again.
I would recommend that you visit your local Humaine Socitey or SPCA and take a walk through all of the dogs and pups waiting for a good home. One will catch your eye and you will instantly sense a new friendship starting. It's true!!! There is one waiting for you.
BTW, I don't recommend you name your dog when they're 7 weeks old!! "Angel" doesn't always live up to her name!!
Cheers,

Well,i went to the breeder where i got Bernie from to see Bernie's parents. It was an emotional visit,as soon as they opened the door Bernies mom came to the door and she looked identical and acted just like our Bernie. My wife couldnt take it,she held the mother in her arms and balled and it was kinda like the mother knew why we were there as she seemed sad also.We showed them some pictures and talked awhile and then he showed us a 5 month old english mastiff male that he had that he couldnt find a home for.We both thought it was to soon but we knew this dog needed a home, the breeder ended up giving us the dog and we took it home last night.I know it will take me time to bond with this dog but i feel like something good came from Bernies death...wish me luck. Thanks again guys.

That's great!! Give the new guy a chance and he'll worm, eat, poop, and chew his way into your hearts before you know it. Don't feel guilty as your not replacing or forgetting Bernie; you're adding another family member.
