extra key?

i got a 2001 srx 700. i want an extra key. is this something hardware stores can make? or do i have to get it from Yamaha somehow?

There are about 3-4 different keys that fit any of those sleds. There should be dots on the plastic handle part. Take it to your dealer to get matched up or just get one with the same # of dots.

i have no dots. and no plastic handle. just a basic key.......

turk, your thinking of polaris, yamaha has a real key.
there should be a number with a letter on stamped on the key, take that into your dealer and they can order another key, its like 12bucks for a set last i bought some.

here in canada the key has 4 letters, usually starts with a 3. and yeah polaris only has 5 different keys total, what a laugh.

In Canada You can also buy blnak from the dealer and get them cut at the hardware store. I usually buy 6 blanks at a time as the family has 6+ yami sleds so that we always have spares to get cut if we loose one.

well i called my local dealer thats not even local heh. he was clueless. where can i find a blanks??? i can cut them at work.

My locksmith had it.

Andersen locksmith in Des Plaines or Mt. Prospect, Ill.

Give dealer the key number and he can get you a blank which you can have cut.

well i called three different dealers. all no real help. say to call yamaha. i called yamaha and they said have to go thru a dealer. i talked to a yamaha dealer that dont sell sleds and he may be able to help me if i show him the key. heh... All i want is an extra key or well key blank.
