try this site out it will tell you what the ratio with what you have is and the try it with the 9 tooth drivers. That is the difference is!

It's just math!
With 40/20 and 8 tooth drivers you currently have:
40 divided by 20 = 2.00 X 1.13 (8 tooth driver correction) = 2.26 gearing
If you change to 9 tooth drivers you'll have:
40 divided by 20 = 2.00 gearing
If you want to keep your gear ratio close to the same you'll have to run 40/18 gears since that will give you a gear ratio of 2.22 (40 divided by 19 = 2.22. (You may need a smaller chain to do this)
I don't know what size track you are running but you might want to keep the gearing just the way it is. Stock gearing on a regular Viper is 38/22 which is 1.72 so as you can see with a gear ratio of 2 you are already geared down considerably........with a gear ratio of 2.26 as it is right now you are REALLY geared down. But hey, I don't live in the mountains (unfortunately) so I don't know anything about that gearing......I'm just trying to teach you how to do the calculations yourself.
I hope I have helped.

OK, I read your post again. I see you live in Minnesota and you are going to a smaller lug track. I should have read more closely. If you are riding this thing on the trail just change the drivers and try it with the gears you have. If you don't have the top end you are looking for then try to work your way back closer to the 38/22 stock regular viper gearing. The first and cheapest step might be to change the top gear to a 22 which would give you 1.81 with your new 9 tooth drivers. You'd only need to buy a 22 top gear (should be plenty of them on here) and you'd be damn close to stock gearing.

gears top=19, 22, 23 lower 38, 41

Sled, I've got a Viper axel with stock 9t on it if you don't find anything, I'll make you a good deal on it. I bought it thinking it would work on my MM but the speedo connection if different on the two sleds.
